WhatsApp messenger, is without the shroud of a doubt, the most popular application across all operating systems on smartphones.
The application has crossed a billion downloads on the android market itself and has a reach of over seven hundred million users who are using it actively every month.
The company has been the centrepiece of a lot of attention in the recent past, as they have been acquired by Facebook.
This acquisition has been making a lot of news in the recent past as the dynamics of the online communication and instant messaging industry will be changed forever after the things are done.
WhatsApp Messenger is expected to change many things in its layout over the next few years, and ultimately a merger is expected to happen in the literal sense as the apps will combine and the facebook app will become the app that provides the features of both, FB messenger as well as WhatsApp.
There are many common features in FB and WhatsApp – last seen, seen, web messengers to name a few.
Users of WhatsApp are often complaining about the quality of calls, while the Facebook messenger has the solution to that. Facebook messaging often gets slightly tedious, while the WhatsApp layout has the answers to a simpler UI and an improved UX.
However the trend indicates that a unification is going to happen. However we do not know how late or how early will it happen.
As of now it is expected to happen in a new update in mid 2017 or as early as the end of 2016, but no time before that.
The companies are now trying to work out and are seeing which are the features that are more popular, and those will be retained, in the end the larger brand will remain the namesake, though it is highly unlikely that facebook would kill the facebook messenger brand, but then killing WhatsApp messenger would also make no sense as that has a massive following as one in every six people in this planet are using WhatsApp messenger.
With a million users joining the app every day, WhatsApp is growing exponentially. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the two companies.
