Facebook has been the global leader when it comes to social media and is one of the world’s best known success stories.
Started in a college dorm, facebook has grown and expanded in a manner no one would have ever imagined it would.
The website which was destined to becomes world’s largest social network was initially a lesser known site where only a few college students operated.
It gradually gained users over time and then slowly more and more people started flowing in. Today, everybody and their dog is on facebook.
With time, even facebook has evolved and has matured as a company.
In the past few years they have made some of the best and wisest investments – the purchase of instagram, for instance has been an amazing decision.
There have been many other business decisions that have followed this, and the most spectacular one that has had the world talking has been that of the purchase of WhatsApp for a whopping 19 Billion Dollars!
While many said that this is just obscene splurge of money, there was another group of smart individuals who saw this move as a great strategy as facebook now owns the #1 social network on internet, it also now owns the number one Instant Messaging application on the smartphone platform.
So basically, facebook knows who you are and where you are, and with who do you interact (with facebook), it knows what you see and what you do (via instagram) and it also has your phone number (with whatsapp).
The bigger question here is – that would the whatsapp messenger impose a danger on the facebook messenger’s popularity? Is it possible that there is an in-brand competition going on between these two services? the answer to this, according to us – is NO.
There is no competition that exists between the Facebook messenger and the WhatsApp messenger as such as both of them are contesting on two different platforms and have two very different target audiences.
While the facebook messenger targets the users who use the facebook service and are probably the users who need to connect with people whose numbers they may not be having.
The target audience of the WhatsApp messenger is totally different though. It involves the people who use their phones and have to connect with other users who use whatsapp.
Hence we do not think that these users have a conflict of opinion when it comes to the apps. It is a wise move by facebook and we really appreciate it.
