Real life tragedy in the scripted sport of pro-wrestling is one of the darkest clouds that surrounds the WWE.
There have been many big controversies ranging from the infamous steroids scandal to various injuries and concussions, and even death.
Time and again, the company has been blamed of negligence and various acts which involve damaging the health of the superstars and divas.
The WWE has often been criticized for the same – and for promoting violence and profanity in the public at large. However, all that aside, their latest game, the WWE 2k16 is surrounded by the same cloud of controversy as some banned names, such as those of Chris Benoit and Owen Hart have been discussed for the game.
WWE 2K16 will be featuring 120 superstars and divas, and for the first time a roster this big is coming out. This is probably going to be the largest WWE roster ever, and even the games that follow this might not be able to come out with such a big roster.
The roster consists of WWE and NXT superstars, as well as those from the WCW, ECW and WWF days. The game offers a complete historic look at the past, the present and the future of the WWE.
Chris Benoit and Owen Hart are two controversial names, as Chris Benoit’s double murder and suicide scandal was one of the most tainted events in the WWE. The entire country was shocked after the wrestler killed his wife and children, and committed suicide after that.
It is being said that his brain resembled that of an 80 year olds’. This sort of brain injury was often linked to the reckless wrestling style of the WWE athletes, and the company has often been blamed, though for no major fault of their own.
Owen Hart’s death was a tragedy as well, when Owen Hart, flying into the ring as ‘The Blue Blazer’ fell to his death after a malfunction during his entrance, and he died in front of the crowd. That was one of the biggest tragedies in WWE history.
Owen Hart’s family has never been in good terms with the WWE and featuring Owen in the game might be controversial because of certain copyright issues and moral disagreements.
With the game heavily rumoring the return of Goldberg and various other such names, it would be interesting to see what the company has to offer to us.
