Phil Spencer has been a name that has risen to prominence in recent times. He has gained a lot of power within the company and he has been calling a lot of shots recently.
The man is said to be very close to the Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and is said to be someone who is working with him towards the development of the One Drive system.
However he has been the man who has been accredited with the success of the XBOX console and he is responsible for the sales of XBOX rising and taking over the PS4 sales.
Especially after the month of November, the XBOX has seen a major rise in the sales and has beaten the sales of the PS4 in the US and the UK.
There were comments where people had said that ‘the console is dying’, but Phil had commented on twitter saying – “Thanks for the congrats. 18 months ago ??s were “death of console?”, seems like consoles are fine, great games and sales for our industry.”
It has been for the first time since the December of 2013 that the XBOX sales have taken over the PS4 sales.
This has been due to the fact that the XBOX was selling their console at a very low price during the thanksgiving season sales of black Friday and cyber Monday.
These sales have given a major boost to the XBOX console and the XBOX was now selling for $350. Various free game were bundled along with the console. Major games were released for this, as big as ‘Assassin’s Creed Unity’.
Various retailers were also reported to have been selling the XBOX One for as low as $330 when compared to the $400 at which the PS4 was being sold at.
This has hampered the sales of the PS4, and the XBOX One has risen and has recorded sales volumes of over 10 million units, and the gap between the sales volumes of the PS4 and the XBOX One has been reducing.
The gap was over 5 million up until a few months ago, however it has reduced to some 3 – 3.5 million units of now, as the XBOX has crossed over 10 million units while the PS4 has crossed some 13.5 million units across the planet.
There are a total of at least 23.5 million units of current generation consoles in the markets as of now, this number will only be increasing and sales will be growing forward with the holiday season approaching and discounts rising.
Sony needs to get into a crisis management mode and need to push their sales forward as they need a major boost now to counter the rise of the XBOX One.
