Cortana is the personal digital assistant on Windows phones present with the user like a partner. It is voice as well as text activated. What song the user like to listen, reminds the user with the birthday list for the month, weather forecast for the day and direct the user with way to office avoiding the heavy traffic or to leave for office early to meet the deadline on time is all what Cortana does for the user. News, personal likings and preferences, daily schedules, planning for business trip or vacations she assists the user. Flight info, hotel bookings available, On dictating the emails, Cortana sends the mail and alerts the user with the reply messages as well. Music recognition service – Concert Watch included with Cortana which help the device to play the favorite music of user. Cortana can add and store data to the Notebook on the settings and learn the user’s behavior and interests of the user. With the ‘do not disturb’ mode the app will suggest the quiet hours and on changing the settings, it calls the user with their nicknames.
Presented first at the Microsoft Build Developer conference in 2014, the virtual assistant is the Microsoft’s planned makeover of the operating systems for Windows Phones. The Name Cortana is given from the intelligence character in a video game Halo. Competing Apple’s Siri, this assistant can start by voice instead of tapping the circle on the device with Windows 8.1. From any corner of the room shouting Hey Cortana, the applications start working. Currently popular in US UK and China, India will get the passive Cortana version nowand later to release the Voice activated Cortana in Nokia smart phone in India. Free windows 10 upgradation is also available till 29 July 2016.
