If you are one of those users who tried getting the Android verion of Microsoft’s voice assistant Cortana for your mobile phones and are now suffering with frequent OS issues, then you have just joined the list of users who have been cheated by Cortana. The assistant was initially smart with her work but the moment she got pushed into more complex tasks by Android users, her smartness gave away.
Truly speaking, Microsoft cannot completely be blamed for this issue. We have to consider the fact that Windows and Android are completely different operating systems altogether and have their own pros and cons. ‘What is sauce for the gander isn’t sauce for the goose’ is a right saying to quote for this situation. Cortana’s abilities were greatly stunted the moment she was released for Android and users came up with complaints of an unstable phone and crashing apps. Some stated that the application was unable to understand them. This was not an issue of cortana becoming deaf or becoming dumb; an Android device running the app was not able to blend Cortana with Google’s speech recognition system. There is nothing that can really be done about it and Microsoft understood this well in time.
Rather than kicking the frustration of the users any further, the company made a move to remove Cortana from the Google Play Store altogether. She will not be available for download now.
It is unclear if Microsoft has decided to suspend the service altogether or whether Cortana has been pulled out for further developments. Microsoft refused to comment on this because it knew that the damage was immense and that Android users would not risk downloading the application again, especially with their phones becoming so unstable that they are not able to place calls or use apps. No one wants to struggle with a damaged microphone and an iffy device. Even if the company does decide to re-launch Cortana for Android, do not expect her to be available before 2016.
