Google and Apple are among two of the biggest names in the world of technology. Not only are they two big names in the tech sector, but also in the world of business and branding. Google and Apple have fought it out over the years, but Google has finally beaten Apple in the fight of becoming the most valuable brand. The company has, after years of hard work, finally taken over Apple in brand sentiment. It was Google which was rated the most valuable brand till 2012, following which Apple took over.
After 5 years Google has finally reclaimed their lost throne. As per Brand Finance Report, which features a list of the top 500 brands, Apple now ranks second, while Google is now the first. Amazon, AT&T, Microsoft, Samsung, Verizon, Walmart, Facebook, and ICBC follow Google, in that particular order. According to brand analysts, Apple has “over-exploited the goodwill of its customers” and has “repeatedly disillusioned its advocates with tweaks when material changes were expected.” Hence, Google is nee tow the most valuable brand.
Apple continues to harp about ‘innovations’ and releases minor upgrades on their phones, macs and iPad tablets every year. Some of these changes have been counter productive and have not really worked out for the brand – things like the removal of the magnetic element from the mac, the addition of a faulty touch panel, battery life flaws have hurt the credibility of Apple a lot. Add the outrageous pricing to that and all of this has come together to hurt Apple and they are no longer the most valuable brand.
Google, on the other hand, has grown in popularity ratings. The company is now releasing their own Google-branded smartphones, and is working on several updates and improvements on their hardware as well as software fronts. Google has been doing really well, and indeed deserves the title of being the mot valuable brand.
