Facebook has been constantly promoting the way they allow brands to market themselves. The company has been introducing various new features and upgrades for the brands to advertise on their platform, and in the same effort, they have introduced a new feature. Brands can now stream live videos on Facebook. Over quite some time, Facebook has been heavily pushing the video based content, and has introduced several new features, such as autoplay and several other features. The company believes that video based content will eventually take over the platform. This feature is expected to be something like what Twitter has with Periscope.
As of this writing, this feature is only available for Facebook for iOS users. This is certainly expected to benefit the brands in many ways, as they can show exclusive content such as Q&A sessions as well as backstage exclusives on Facebook. This can give their page an air of exclusivity as users who would like to view this kind of content would have to arrive at their Facebook page to access it.
As per reports from The Verge, starting a stream is quite an easy process, as all the Page owners have to do, is to press the “Publish” button and then click on “Live Video.” Following this, they can now include a description of their choice and then begin with the filming of the video. ‘Live’ will also provide information regarding the number of viewers who tune in to watch the video, as well as the names of other verified users or Pages watching it. Comments are also allowed, giving a more engaging experience to the viewers.
The major difference between Twitter’s periscope and Facebook’s option for brands to stream live videos would be the fact that the periscope videos do not tend to stay on for a long time, but the Facebook videos would be permanently on the page, and can be deleted as per will. Several big pages have been granted this access, such as The Tonight Show and U2. More pages to follow soon.
