Over the last few years, Social Media has been on a massive rise. Leading the charge here is Facebook. The company has amassed over 1.69 Billion users and has been the single largest platform on the world when it comes to connecting people. Facebook not only is the single largest platform, but also owns several other apps and platforms of connecting people – Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Moments, and several other smaller apps included, Facebook has been a giant on the rise.
The Facebook Messenger is the company’s second most popular homegrown app after the Facebook app in itself. The company has been pushing the messenger app with several new features and innovations having been added to it over the past several years. Recently, the company has been pushing it with an increased vigor as they have almost ‘forced’ it upon the users by removing the chat in the main app.
Facebook has now re-introduced an old feature back into the app, as text messaging on Facebook Messenger returns. The text messaging feature used to be a part of the Facebook Messenger’s offering in the early days of the app, however the company eventually removed it. The feature has finally made its return on the Android app for the Messenger.
David Marcus, the VP of Messaging Products at Facebook said that: “A lot of Android texting apps didn’t keep up with the evolution of messaging, so we felt like we truly had to make Messenger the best SMS client for Android. As a result, in addition to having a fully integrated app for all your messaging, you’re now able to send voice clips, stickers, and even share your location over SMS on top of standard texting features. You will now also enjoy all the things you’ve come to love about Messenger for all your messages, including chat heads and more.”
