Moving on from Carplay, Apple is now eyeing your home. Apple announced today at WWDC that it is launching a new software which will let you control various home appliances all from the convenience of your iPhone or iPad.
HomeKit is the new common network protocol that essentially lets all users control their home appliances and the like from their Apple devices.
The requirement is a secure pairing which insures that only your iPhone can control things like your garage door or kitchen light bulbs.
HomeKit users can also control individual appliances and functions in their home. Moreover, you can even control a group of devices in various scenes through various commands.
Let us consider an example where you tell your iPhone (via Siri) that, “It’s time for bed.” After inferring this command, all devices of the nighttime scene will prepare for sleep and supposeldy your garage door will lock, lights in various parts of the house will turn off, etc.
Apple also commented that it worked with a number of home appliance and services leaders towards the complete development of HomeKit.
