The entire world went crazy when Apple introduced the cute little AirPods. Those earbud kind of earphones were too cute. While it was fun to listen to music on AirPods, it was hard to find them, especially if you lose one of them underneath the couch or at the back of the bed. The size and lightweight nature of the earphones causes Apple users to lose them often. Luckily, a good old fellow named Deucks understood this plight. Deucks introduced the $3.99 app called Finder for AirPods to fix the major problem in hand.
To our disappointment, the company decided to remove the app from Apple store for some reason.
Finder for AirPods developed by iOS developer Deucks measured the strength of Bluetooth signal emitted by the missing earphone. The app used the same tracking mechanism like other Bluetooth trackers, mainly Tile. It ran on a hot-or-cold guidance system to locate its position. An arc system used by the app made it easier to find the missing AirPod, if it was nearby.
How did Finder for Airpod work?
To find the missing AirPod, users first had to place the available AirPod inside the charging case. Thereafter, the app was switched on the phone. The app matched the frequency of the paired AirPods to track the location of the missing earphone.
Though the company didn’t provide any explanation regarding it, MacRumos suggest that inaccurate mechanism was the major reason behind app discontinuation. Since the software used warm or cold signals of varying strengths to track down the missing object, the signal was at times, influenced by the environmental factors in the vicinity. Radio frequencies and obstructing signals proved detrimental to the app signals. Despite these glitches, the app was quite useful for those who lived in a messy hostel dorm. Something was better than nothing!
Now, the only alternative is to pay $69 for its replacement, which isn’t very cool. Hopefully the developers might come up with something better in future. Until then, all the Apple users need to handle their AirPods with extra caution. Good luck!
